The next movie night will feature V for Vendetta. I love love love this movie. It has great political themes, particularly corruption, and Natalie Portman, one of my favorite actresses! If you’ve only seen her in Star Wars, than I can see why you wouldn’t like her, but if you’ve seen her in Anywhere But Here (with Susan Sarandon), Garden State (with Zach Braff), or V for Vendetta, you’ll change your mind.

I have not yet seen “V for Vendetta” but am looking forward to it!  I’ve heard good things about it and the premise sounds like it will lend itself well to some interesting conversations.  Looking forward to seeing/meeting more of you at the event on Feb 8th!

I was excited to see that GoLeft will be hosting a screening of V for Vendetta this Friday for a variety of reasons.  Although I have been caught up in the primaries as much as anyone I can’t help but think that there is much more at stake. I am greatly concerned with the shift in balance of powers that has occurred as a result of the Bush administration and the war.  I think this movie provides a stellar context in which we can think about the bigger picture and protecting our freedoms and systems of government, instead of trying to keep up with the primary candidates and who appears the most “strong” and “promising” and who is ahead in the polls. Instead it is time to think about how we need to protect everyone’s civil liberties in order to preserve democracy, which thankfully the makers of this film did in an insanely creative, perceptive and entertaining matter (plus I have to admit that I love Natalie Portman and dig the Vendetta hair cut to boot).
